The purpose of this study is to build up the sustainable cultural heritage tourism indicators in terms of tourists’ perspectives for providing suggestions to government administrators to develop Ayutthaya World Heritage, Thailand. With such research effort, it is expected that Ayutthaya World Heritage site may remain current status and achieve sustainable cultural heritage tourism.
This study collected a set of sustainable tourism indicators based on related literatures. Collected sustainable tourism indicators are classified into economic, social, cultural, and environmental dimensions. There were 20 sustainable tourism indicators were chosen among the four dimensions. The questionnaire was used to survey the domestic and international tourists’ perspectives to conduct the pair-wise comparisons of the importance of sustainable tourism indicators. The Fuzzy AHP approach was applied in the empirical research.
Empirical results found that tourists cared the most to the environment dimension of Ayutthaya World Heritage site. In addition, natural and cultural landscape under the environment dimension showed as the most important indicator while safety showed as the least important indicator. Therefore, it is suggested that government administrator should eagerly find the improvement strategy of natural and cultural landscape surrounding Ayutthaya World Heritage site such as architectural character of building if this site doesn’t want to be dropped from World Heritage status.
