1952年，政府正高舉「以農業培養工業，以工業發展農業」的施政原則，當時的經濟政策欲將台灣林業由單純的森林伐木進而發展為加工的木材工業，進一步促進台灣的產業結構更新。為此，打算以大雪山林業公司開案做為當時林業的指標政策，並決議採行林業與工業綜合經營方式，採公司制經營，直隸台灣省政府之下，表示打造現代化產業示範園區的決心，也成了台灣林業史上唯一的一家實際公營的「公司」。儘管它從經濟部核准成立 (1959年) 到裁併林務局 (1973年)，短短15年光陰即告謝幕下台，各方褒貶不一。但它結合當時政府大量資源及美援挹注，期待它頂著「遠東第一大森林工業中心」的光環，可利用台灣引以為傲的森林資源，作為最大的產值輸出，以培植國力。因此不難想像大雪山林業公司在當時的重要意義。

In 1952, the government announced a main economic policy, that was, “ As agriculture is the soil of industry, so industry facilitates agriculture.” At that time, the government spared no efforts in order to help turn simple logging operation into forest industry; further, the aim was to renew the industry construction of Taiwan. Therefore, Ta Shu Shan Forestry Corporation was used as the norm policy. It was run in corporation system and governed by Taiwan Province Administration. It not only represented the resolution of the government trying to make it a modernized demonstrative industry area but became the only corporation run by the government in the wood industry of Taiwan. As Ta Shu Shan Forestry Corporation established in 1959 by the Ministry of the Economics Affairs and lasted only 15 years for the Forestry Bureau was forced to be closed in 1973. Although the society has diverse opinions toward it, it combined the abundant resources of the government and economically sponsored by the United States. Thus, it was expected to be the biggest forest industry center of the Far East area. In the meantime, with forest resources, it contributed to economics of Taiwan a lot. Consequently, the position of Ta Shu Shan Forestry Corporation was beyond compare in the nineteenth century in Taiwan.
