The Slovak Republic became an independent republic on January 1,1993; also joined the European Union (EU) as one of the 25 Member States on May 1, 2004. After Slovakia joined the EU, the foreign investors value the low wages of Eastern Europe labors, the guaranteed access to EU markets, and the promises of Parties guarantee which won the election in 1998 and 2002. Then, descended the tax rate of corporate profit tax and personal income tax to 19%; meanwhile, due to Slovakia is anxious to lower 18% unemployment, Slovakia welcomes all the foreign investment globally. In 2003, the Taipei Representative Office established in Slovakia's capital, Bratislava, it showed Slovakia wants to have actively trade relations between Taiwan and Slovakia; therefore, this will also help the role that Taiwan plays in Eastern Europe market.4
