The study is to take the freshmen of Ling Tung University and Chin-Yi University of Technology in 2008 as subjects and the valid samples are 1370 (including 195 male and 500 female students of Ling Tung University; 458 male and 217 female students of Chin-Yi University of Technology) by random sampling. The study aims to understand the conditions and differences of these freshmen's physical fitness of the two universities and compared with the collegiate norm. What was found in this study can be used not only to offer the students for evaluating their conditions of physical fitness, but provide reference materials for setting or adjusting the contents and goals for teaching of physical education. Testing items are height, weight (BMI), flexibility, strength, muscle strength (muscle endurance) and cardiovascular endurance (800 m、1600 m-run/walk). The empirical findings are as follows: 1. The height, weight and BMI of these two universities are within normal range of the norm of colleges and universities. Except for the female students' weight of Chin-Yi University of Technology is lighter than the norm and male and female students' strength of both universities perform better than the norm, other items (including flexibility, muscle strength (strength endurance) and cardiovascular endurance) are worse than the norm of colleges and universities. 2. The difference among the students of these two universities is not significant in sit and reach test, but is significant in standing long jump test. The male (p<0.05) and female (p<0.01) show the students' strength in Chin-Yi University of Technology is better than in Ling Tung University. The difference of these two universities is significant in sit-up, the male (p<0.01) and female (p<0.10) show muscle strength (muscle endurance) of students in Chin-Yi University of Technology is better than in Ling Tung University. The difference of male students of these two universities is not significant in cardiovascular endurance, but it is significant for female students (p<0.01). It shows the cardiovascular endurance of female students in Chin-Yi University of Technology is better than in Ling Tung University. As a whole, the male students' results of sit and reach and standing long jump in Ling Tung University and those of standing long jump of all freshmen in Chin-Yi University of Technology are better than the norm of colleges and universities, but those of flexibility, strength, muscle strength (muscle endurance) and cardiovascular endurance are worse than the norm. In the future, these two universities should particularly enhance the training of flexibility, muscle strength (muscle endurance) and cardiovascular endurance in order to increase the level of physical fitness.
