宋元南戲《孟姜女》的墨本雖佚，而臺本卻始終在民間傳唱。近年在浙江紹興市上虞縣與金華市永康縣先後發現調腔戲抄本《孟姜女》與醒感戲《長城記》，二者均系南戲的嫡傳。本文專述前者。此戲長期依附道教法事，以幽法為載體，以超度為宗旨，與翻九樓相銜接，充分體現「內壇法事外臺戲」的特點。是研究戲曲學、宗教學與民俗學的難得資料。

During the Song and Yuan dynasties, Nanxi Meng-jiangnu were widely performed among the people, but printed scripts have not been found. However, scripts of both Diaoqiangxi Meng-jiangnu and Xingganxi The Story of the Great Wall, which were later found in the Shangyu county of Shaoxing city and Yongkang county of Jinhua city, are handed down in direct descent from Nanxi. The former has for some time been linked with the ceremony of Daojiao, and has been a source of valuable material for studying Xiqu, religion, and folklore.
