The challenge brought by the new century can only be met with the new generation of higher education that may cultivate new quality and capability among the students, and thus general education is gaining popularity gradually. As recommended by the university core curriculum planning team, the Ministry of Education promulgated the ”Key Points for the Implementation of University General Education Distribution Requirements” in 1984, which mandate all universities in the country to offer general education. However, many ambiguities pertaining to the concepts still exist since the implementation of general education, and consensus opinions about the theories proposed by various scholars as well as the pattern of implementation at the universities in the world have not yet been reached.National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences received a subsidy from the Ministry of Education in 2007. In formulating the ”Curriculum Innovation Project Based on the Core of General Education”, the University has reviewed the foundation and idea of implementing general education at the University, reconstructed the framework of, and implementation method for, general education at the University, enhanced education quality through the planning of the new curriculum, and actively developed a school curriculum map that focuses on future employment and ability cultivation to allow the curriculum map to achieve the goal of assisting the students with their course selection.This Study offers the idea and practice of the general education innovation plan implemented at National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences to practically help other schools in implementing general education innovation.
