本文的主要目的在於提供莫拉克颱風期間，在台灣發生的災害的綜覽。由於本文認為降雨為莫拉克颱風致災的主因，因此首先討論莫拉克颱風期間降雨的特性。接著依序說明各種災害，包含洪水、崩塌、堰塞湖、濁水及漂流木等。在莫拉克颱風期間，這些災害有同時發生在同一個地區的現象。像這樣子的災害，本文將之定義為複合型災害。最後本文建議，應發展複合型災害的早期預警系統以減輕複合型災害的損失。

The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of disasters caused by Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan. The characteristics of the rainfall are first discussed, because the rainfall is considered as the major cause of the disasters. Disasters, which include floods, landslides, landslide dams, turbid waters, and driftwoods, are then explained. During Typhoon Morakot, some of these disasters occurred simultaneously in one place. Such disasters are defined as the compound disasters in this paper. To alleviate the loss of compound disasters, the development of the early warning system for compound disasters is suggested.
