After Taipei MRT began commercial service, relevant authorities have received complaints from residents living in the vicinity where MRT system passes beneath. With a view to mitigating the impacts of noise and vibration caused by the system, Taipei MRT Xinzhuang-Luzhou line takes the lead in adopting an overseas technology, Floating Slab Track (FST), which has been applied in many railway construction projects around the world for more than 30 years.FST is a wellrecognized infrastructure trackwork technology that efficiently reduces ground borne vibration and noise. It also helps terminate pollution problems such as vibration and secondary noise. Floating Slab Track is a well-developed technology with an extensive design history in many foreign countries; however only limited information is available for reference with few specialist consultants and experienced constructors. The adoption of the FST system on MRT lines requires slight modifications due to geological constraints and the nature of the contract. As it is the first time that FST is applied in MRT construction in Taiwan, great attention is being paid to the setting up of an optimal system and the implementation of high quality construction planning, sequencing, procedures in order to create effectiveness that will lead to successful FST performance. This paper aims to keep a complete record of the FST construction, the first ever in the nation, for readers’ reference.
