ABSTRACT There are many successful examples for launching TRIZ in practices. Exploring improvements of existed products/services are always tough and laborious tasks, the TRIZ philosophy can help an experienced decision maker targeting his innovation direction in a very short time. However, TRIZ is not easy for a beginner when exploring innovations because many implementation steps within it are fuzzy. In this paper, a new approach of combining TRIZ concept and affinity set together is proposed to find the possible trajectories of improvements for chopsticks, and this approach is specially designed for TRIZ beginners. We start this approach by introducing the forty rules in TRIZ, which is utilized by expanding affinity sets for innovation later. Most of important, the mathematical definition and algorithm of the fuzzy term: innovation are proposed in this study. This new approach is simple and valuable to improve the existed products/services.
