The purpose it upheld was to mould a modern youth in tune with a healthy and balanced way of life through moral, intellectual, physical and social programs. In order to promote the ideal of the YMCA and to attract more youth to its organization, the Chinese YMCA combined several publications and created the Association Progress in 1917. From then on, this magazine became the official organ of the Chinese Y. It not only enjoyed great popularity, but it also had the highest circulation among Christian publications. Overall, it published 150 issues and ceased in 1932.In every issue of the Association Progress, there were some literary works that most of them were novels. The novels of this period were products of the New Culture Movement. Some of them were in semi-classical and some in plain language. Although different in style, their contents were similar: healthy lifestyle. No one has ever conducted research on the literary works on the novels in the Association Progress.
