Objectives: Our purpose was to preserve medical records from the period of Japanese colonial rule and the restoration of Taiwan. We used modern technology to restore the contents of medical records in order to help research the medical history of that era.Methods: The preserved medical records were kept in a low-temperature room and scanned to electronic files as part of the Taiwan Modern Medical Material Database.Results: Most of the preserved medical records related to obstetrics and gynecology and contained information about childbirth, operations, and x-rays from 1938 to 1952. Digital files of about 3,860 patients' include 65,168 images, 386 compact disk, 193 pdf files and medical record terms and index files.Conclusion: The form, content and language of these medical records are witness to the development of medicine during World War II.
