     本研究的目的有二:(一)探討殘障者之失學原因;(二)比較受教與失學的殘障人士在工作適應、生活適應、和社會適應等方面有無差異,以了解教育成效,俾便提供有關單位做為今後提高殘障兒童受教比率和研討特殊教育發展計畫之參考。 本研究取樣596位持有智障、肢障、視障、聽語障或多障殘障手冊的l7至36歲的殘障人士為研究對象,其中受教者474人,失學者122人。 本研究設計「殘障人士適應調查表」,以收集殘障人士的失學原因、家庭生活、職業生活、社會生活及綜合意見等五部分資料。 探討殘障人士失學原因所得結果,發現重度殘障人士失學者較中輕度為多,其中失學原因以未申請入學者為多。 教育成效探討所得結果,發現受教的重度智障和多障者比失學的同類殘障者在家庭生活、社會生活、職業生活和總生活適應等四項生活適應上較好,而受教的重度多障者在職業生活適應,也比失學的多障者較好。
     This study served two purposes (1) to investigate the reasons of Illiteracy for handicapped adults; and (2) to examine the community adjustment in adulthood (i.e. in independent living, employment and social integration) of the handicapped. Subjects in this study included 596 handicaped adults with ages ranged from 17 to 36 years old. They were legally identified as montally retarded, physically handicapped, hearing impaired, visual impaired, or multiply handicapped. Approximately 80% (n=474) of the sample received educational services, while 20% of them (n=122) had not received any forms of educational services. A Questionnaire was designed and used while interviews were proceeded to collect data on handicapped adults' in independent living, employment and social integration. Additional surveys were conducted to those who had not received any forms of educational services in their school ages. The major findings were as follows: 1. High percentages of the handicapped adults who received no educational sercives were [bund to be those with severe handicaps. 2. The major reason for handicapped adults who had not received educational programs was the lacking opportunity to be accessed to programs. 3. Mentally and multiply handicapped adults who had received education were found to have better community adjustments than those who had not reveived educational services. 4. The length of time to be served in education was found to be positively related to the later community adjustment of people with mental handicap, physical handicap, hearing impairment, or muldple handicap.
