Over the past severalyears, the advent of World-Wide Web(WWW) has
been had increasing impactwithin the library community. A wealthof information in
the Web has presented new opportunities and challenges for librarians.
All users (including libraries) ofthe Web may be identified as membersof at least one
of two groups : passiveusers, who access pages and navigatelinks created by others,
and activeusers ' who are involved in the authorship and maintenance of originalWeb
pages and links. This article discusses these two different roles thatlibrary should play:
information receiver and information provider.
