　　　　　貝拉是當代世界級的宗教社會學家，然國內尚缺之介紹其宗教社會學思想的作品。本文目的是系統地介紹貝拉的一般宗教社會學理論，先論述其生平和一生著作旨趣，再分別討論其理論中的宗教現象的特徵，宗教的社會功能，以及宗教的演化階段。結論中除指出貝拉宗教社會理論的優點外，也提及其理論最為人所詬病的地方。

　　　　　Although Bellah is a Worldwidely Known Sociologist of Religion, His General theory of Religion is Still Little Known on Taiwan. This Article is Intended to Introduce Systematically His Basic thoughts on Religion. It Starts with a Short Account of His Career and the Main Themes of His Works and Then Discusses His Ideas on the Characteristics of Religion, the Social Functions of Religion and the Religious Evolution and Concludes with the Specification on Be llah's Contributions to the Sociology of Religion as well as Some of the Criti cisms His Works Have Evoked.
