　　　　　許多美術館與各級學校早自建館之初即建立一定程度的關係。本文主要針對美術館與國小學校的合作互動關係，作一歷史及文獻的探討。在北美地區，美術館自二十世紀初即開始對國小學童提供服務。許多小學並無專任美術教師，美術教育則全由各班級任老師負責。這些教師普遍缺乏美術教育的專業訓練與知識技能，如何提供學童適當及全面的美術教育對他們而言便成為一種必須努力克服的挑戰。而美術館正是少數能夠協助小學教師面對美術教學挑戰的機構之一。然而，近數十年來，許多美術館雖不斷推展對國小師生的服務，美術館與國小之間的合作關係則存在著本質上的問題。美術館提供師生各項活動服務，教師帶領學童到美術館參加導覽活動，並不表示二者之間存在著良好的合作與溝通。本文係以文獻探討的方式進行，首先介紹北美地區美術館與學校關係的發展歷史，其後則針對美術館與小學互動關係的相關問題進行討論。
