中文之動量詞可分為兩種。一種是表示事件或行為之發生狀態或大致上的時間。 另一種是表示事件或行為之發生的次數。 本文試圖按照其不同之功能來解釋其語意，並以時間之先後次序從先秦時代至清朝為 止，舉出實例來介紹其歷史發展。

　　　　　Chinese verbal classifiers can be divided into two kinds: 1. verbal classifiers indicating the manner of an event or action or the time which an event lasts. 2. verbal classifiers indicating the times of action. This paper tries to explain the semantics of the verbal classifiers according to their different functions and presents a rough picture of the process of the historical development of Chinese verbal classifiers in chronological order from the pre-Han period to the Qing Dynasty.
