　　　　　本文將臺灣的對外直接投資型態依投資目的的不同，區分成受總體環境惡化影響， 而欲降低生產成本以維持競爭力的防禦型投資，以及為了擴張市場、取得技術及排除貿易障 礙等的擴張型投資，並以多項羅吉特模型(Multinomial Logit Model)對不同投資型態的決定因 素分別進行估計，以驗證並比較本文對此二種不同型態的投資行為所建立的假說。 實證結果顯示，擴張型投資的決定因素，主要受廠商規模及研發密度等廠商別競爭優勢的影 響。其次，技術取得的誘因及獲利率亦為重要的因素。相對的，防型投資受廠商別競爭優勢 的因素影響不大，傾向於支持Chen(1992)的成本誘因論點。而中衛體系的生產網路關連性，則 對防禦型投資決策有正向顯著的影響。此外，出口與廠商具有科學性產業的特性，同時對擴 張型與防禦型投資具有顯著的正面影響效果。
　　　　　We divide Taiwanese foreign direct investment (FDI) into expansionary and defensive types according to its purpose. A multinomial logit model is used to estimate the determinants of these two types of FDI separately. Empirical results indicate that expansionary FDI is mainly influenced by firm-specific advantages such as scale and R&D intensity. Profitability and motives for technology acquisition are important factors too. On the other hand, defensive FDI tends to be affected by cost reduction motives. The nexus of production networks also has a positive effect on defensive FDI. Industrial characteristics such as export-oriented and high-technology industry positively affect both types of FDI.
