The Philippines is an archipelago consisting of 7107 islands and islets stretching almost 1,850 km from north to south. Two of the biggest islands Luzon in the north confronted with Mindanao in the south in politic, culture and religious practices:the maker of national politic in north of Christians and the minority of Islam culture in south. These two different religious cultures are often the national inflammable matter. 1945 Philippines declared independence, became the only one catholic country in Asia, and also one of the few countries in Asia that English education wide spread. There is about more than 60 ethnic groups living in the Philippines, all belong to Austronesian language groups, aside from the aborigine minority Negritos. In the past, where did these Malay people come from is still a question: did they come from Taiwan and go south to the philippines or through south China continent go to the north to Philippines﹖ In this article will present some materials about religious practices, way of lives, music and musical instruments from north and south Philippines trying to exam the Austronesians and their musical roots. The difficulties are that of through migrations from different times and waves in the Philippines and broughting different changes of cultures with themselves; furthermore the intermarriages of ethnic groups, 400 years christianization of Spaniards, 500 years collision of Islam, all of these making the seeking of the roots not easier than it has already been.
