While there are no dates written on most of the Han-Dynasty wooden slips found at Juyan, there are a number of exceptions. Ofthese slips, some give a year, and others only a month and SB 干支 (Heavenly stem 天干 and earthly branch 地支 ) of the first day (SBF 朔干支 ) or another day (from which SBF can be calculated) of that month. The latter two types are classified as SFM 月朔簡 (slips on which the SBF of a known month is written). Examples of such dates are "Junel, Gui-Si" 六月癸巳朔 (Slip no. 148.37 and "May 28, Wu-Xu" 五月廿八日戊戌 (Slip no' 163.7). Given the periodicity of the same SBF in certainmonths or leap months 朔閏干支 in the Han calendar, as well as uncovered information on the slips, the author holds that the years for the greater part of the SFM can be determined, and that two or three most likely choices can be advanced for the remainder. In the present paper, the author examines 58 SFM unearthed at Juyan and Jianshui 肩水 in 1930, discusses the grounds and methods of textual researc h, and presents his research results in three tables. It is hoped that interested scholars will find this research valuable.
