清代民國時期五路財神寶卷的主要人物都是杜平等五人,其情節結構與明清戲曲小說的"謫仙歷劫"模式一脈相承。依據杜平出生地不同,五路財神寶卷可分為誕生于杭州和誕生于朝歌兩個文本系統。作為財神信仰的宣講底本,五路財神寶卷中摻入了明清商書的內容,其中記錄有貨品名單、貿易路線、商業街市分布等商貿知識,具有重要的文獻價值。這些寶卷體現了以人為本的財富觀,在財富倫理中汲取了儒家、道教和民間信仰思想,具有豐富的文化內涵。
