Gu Jiegang became a professor of history at Xiamen University in 1926 where he taught a course on the "Study of Confucian Classical Books". It was his first course at the university, and it’s also the beginning of his continuous writing of lecture notes on SHANGSHU. This article not only uses historical materials embodied in the GUJIEGANGWENJI( Complete Works of Gu Jiegang),but also uses Gu Jiegang’s original manuscripts and mimeographed handouts,in an attempt to grasp the context of the course at Xiamen University comprehensively. In this course, he only mentioned the forgery and distinguishing forgery of the GUWENSHANGSHU( Old Text of the Book of Documents),mainly, according to Ding Yan’s statement,he pointed out that Wang Su forged it. In fact, when he undertook teaching the course, this argument was strongly argued by some scholars and it seems the argument on "Wang Su Forged the GUWENSHANGSHU"is not correct. This article finally discusses the contexts and meanings of Gu Jiegang’s argument on "Wang Su Forged the GUWENSHANGSHU",with a methodological reflection on the study of the history of academic thoughts.
