Abstract
In spite of the throwing pattern, the thrower maneuvers their body motion and strength to throw the object toward the desired target. This study used fifteen voluntarily participated college male students (22.27 ± 3.38 yr) as subjects. Each subject threw a ball-like object with over-arm style. The VICON 624 M2 and the BIOPACK EMG system were used to study the effect of objects’ weight on throwing pattern and muscular activation. The data collected were analyzed with One-way ANOVA (α=.05). The findings were as follow: (1) Segmental linear velocity and angular momentum decrease as the ball weight increase; (2) Segmental moving and rotation sequencing was not affected by the increasing ball weight which indicated the sequential accelerating technique is not affected either; (3) As the ball weight increase, the horizontal velocity ascending value of the proximal segment increased and the contribution of the angular momentum from the forearm decreased gradually. These results indicate objects’ weight would influence projector’s exerting way on his extremity; (4) Except for the triceps brachii, the trapezius, biceps brachii , radial wrist extensor, ulnar wrist flexor and deltoid were verified as Group I stabilizers and the atissimus dorsi and pectoralis were Group II accelerators; (5) As the ball weight increasing, muscular activation increased for the trapezius in follow through phase and the latissimus dorsi in accelerating phase. Therefore, defining different training courses for trapezius and latissimus dorsi was indispensable to stabilize projector’s shoulder joint and maintain his performance in throwing processes when the objects’ weight was changing
