CHANG Chieh-Pin (1563-1640), a Confucian physician in the Ming Dynasty, devoted himself to the study of the theories of the Hundred Schools of thoughts. Dr. CHANG once commented on Tang SUN Xi-Miao (541-682) and said:‘If you don't know the "Yi", it is not enough to talk about the medicine. Every time I have doubts, I say that the "Yi" is a fundamental text. Medicine is different from Yi (the Book of Changes). They are two viewpoint system for the natural world. Besides, the basis of medicine is the "Nei-Jing", why should it be borrowed from "Yi" system?’ CHANG thought that the ancient Chinese medicine book "Huang-Di Nei-Jing" is totally complete, why do you need the "Book of Changes" to look beyond the near and far? Then he said: ‘This time, I am not confused, the stagnation is a little open, and the knowledge of shame is learned, and I gradually understand the meanings of medicine and Yi.’ It would be seen that theory of "Yi" has a certain influence on the basic theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) system. CHANG emphasized that the "Book of Changes" contains Tai-chi, Tai-chi and Wu-chi are the same meanings of universe. CHANG think that the human body is like the transformation of Tai-chi. It is at the beginning of creation, because of emptiness to transform Qi, because of Qi to shape, and it is also the ancestor of the innate one Qi." This is the source of transformation from all things, and the power is the same as Tai-chi, and thus medicine-"Yi" interaction (Qi) plays the important role in understanding the principle of the universe. The movement of Tai-chi gives birth to Yang, from stillness to Yin, from nature to movement, and from the ground, from stillness, the way of heaven and earth, the two Qi of ‘Yin and Yang’ create all things. In Su-Wen (Plain Questions, first part of "Huang-Di Nei-Jing" chapter 25 says: ‘The sky covers the earth, everything is prepared, and nothing is more valuable than human beings. People originated from the Qi of heaven and earth, and the Chi of the four seasons also influence the human beings." CHANG said: ‘The change of the world is also the change of the outside; the change of the human body is also the change of the inside. The human body is a small world (or universe). Qing physician TANG Zhong-Hai also emphasized the same theory. In between, it is influenced by the transformation of yin and yang of heaven and earth, and the vital Qi flows around the human body. The so-called Qi of heaven and earth means that there is a source for life, biochemical transformation, et cetera. The Yi and medicine come from the isogenic origins. This dissertation focuses on researching the ancient Chinese medical book “Category of Nei-Jing, Medical Science, the Theory of Change and Medicine Ethics” written by Confucian Physician CHANG Chieh-Pin (of Ming Dynasty) and sorting out all of Chang’s works. CHANG advocated that the ‘Theory of Change’ and ‘Yin and Yang’ theories have certain impact on the basic theory of TCM system. The author tries to expound and examine “the isogeny of medicine science and the theory of change” as well as how the connotation and background of medicine science is compatible to that in the Theory of Change, hoping to enlighten the later researchers and physicians who might not be clear about it with his research of ‘the Theory of Change’ (Yi) which led to understand more the ambiguous areas of human physiology and various diseases, so as to make people enjoy long life. Afterwards, CHANG let everyone know the medicine-and-nature interaction. To get a glimpse of (medicine) its profoundness, the author hopes to respect the classic literatures, explores the sources of natural principles, integrates the ancient and the modern, exhales the old and absorbs the new, takes the duty of healing people and the world, takes the inheritance of Huang-Di and Qi-Bo in the mind. Besides, the author creates the theory of pulse-checking and clinical application, explains in detail, for other physicians to learn well. In this article, the author hopes to carry forward the quintessence of traditional medicine, and treats the whole person according to the syndrome, so as to avoid It is a pity to dig wells when you are thirsty, and so on. The author hopes that he will learn the way of practicing medicine well, enlightening the ignorant, finely studying the wisdoms of classics, connecting the cosmos of yin and yang, so that everyone can do the same as what he learned from ancient ONE HEALTH philosophy.
