TQM活動會對品質改善做出貢獻,此乃TQM活動的最基本假設。本研究希藉由企業實施TQM後其品質績效的改善為基礎,探討TQM活動是否會藉由品質績效進而對企業整體績效如生產力、競爭地位及獲利能力等形成影響。然而,整體績效的產生又與企業所處的產業競爭程度有極大的關聯性,所以,經由產業競爭程度的差異狀況做為干擾變項,進一步檢視此干擾變項對於品質績效與整體績效之間的關係,是否形成不同的影響效果。實證結果顯示:本研究由整體模型的分析,獲得包括競爭因素在內的「TQM活動、品質績效及整體績效」因果模型;而由TQM活動透過品質績效對整體績效的間接效果較TQM活動本身對整體績效的直接效果更高的現象,顯示出品質績效為中介變項的效果是存在的;而加入競爭因素後的整體因果模型的影響推論中,證實不同競爭群對整體績效是以不同的路徑來完成效果相近的結果,然而,此相近的效果實際上卻蘊含不同的整體績效水準;為進一步分析競爭因素與整體績效的關係,分別以整體績效因素及競爭因素兩次分群處理,實證結果指出在高整體績效的「產業易進入群」與「產業難進入群」在財務績效與非財務績效總效果表現,皆顯示「產業難進入群」會因為TQM活動而表現出更加的效果,此說明擁有進入障礙優勢的企業,創造高績效的過程中,以TQM的有效管理方式更具有加成的效果。

The basic assumption of TQM is that it contributes to quality improvement. This study investigates the influence of TQM and quality improvement to enterprise total performance, such as productivity, competitiveness, and profitability. Nevertheless, overall performance has great correlation with the degree of industrial competitiveness within its industry. By taking the degree of industrial competitiveness within its industry as a moderating variable, this study examines the effects of interferences to quality and overall performance. The empirical evidence reveals: With the analysis of entire model, this research obtained “TQM activity, quality performance and total performance” causal model. The indirect effect of TQM activities improving the entire company’s performance through the implementation of quality performance is better than the effect of TQM activities themselves directly working on the company. It seems that the quality performance presents a effect of intermediate variable. However, there are few differences between the presented total effect of financial and non-financial performance. It means when the companies are directly grouped by the competition factors, the different competition groups would achieve a quite similar result in different paths, but the result contains the different level of total performance in actual fact. For the further analysis of relation between the competition factors and entire organization performance, this research will, again, group the companies by the factors of competition and total performance, respectively. In high total performance group, the empirical study point out that the “high market barrier group” have better total effect of financial and non-financial performance than the “low market barrier group” by implementing TQM activities. It indicates that enterprises which own high market barrier will achieve a high level effect by employing TQM management.
