In this article I make an analysis on the chapter of Chih-Yuan Yian-Chi in Mencius, and inquiry onto the problem of whether Chu His’s understanding of this chapter is what Mencious means. Besides the meaning of Chih-Yuan Yian-Chi in Mencius, I also discuss how to understand Koa-Tze’s relevant views present in this chapter. I further make a comparison between chu His’s and Lu Shian-San’s understandings of this chapter in order to figure out which of them is more capable of succeeding/being the successor of Mencius’ thought.
