We human beings have faced intense pressure and environmental threats due to the growth of international economy and cultural flow across boundaries. Leaders of all aspects have to embrace new education models so we can conduct oral communication with foreign countries directly. In this regards, the education and academic organizations have the full responsibilities to cultivate foreign language professionals. Therefore, current Japanese language teaching should meet demands and changes of the time and aim at developing a set of application teaching models of foreign language which are simultaneously, sensible and with mobility. Besides, the educational mechanisms should take the responsibility to cultivate professionals of high added-value and provide the society and students with a competitive learning environment. Universities and colleges all over Taiwan are promoting interpretation education in full swing in recent years. Interpretation teachers on Japanese language have, therefore, been put a lot of emphasis. The problem is that the number of Japanese interpretation teachers with M.A. degrees from formal translation and interpretation graduate schools are so small and it won't meet the demand from the academic circle. As a result, to attract M.A. degree holders in Japanese interpretation to devote in education, to transform Japanese language teaching teachers into interpretation teachers, to set a clear line between interpretation teachers and Japanese language teachers and to design interpretation teaching materials are all important issues to address. This thesis is based on the interpretation teaching materials for senior students of the Department of Applied Japanese, academic year 2002. The author tries to analysis: 1. The aims of interpretation courses (actual experience out of interpretation courses in National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology); 2. Teaching methods (situation designs, interpretation teaching methods, class participation and learning results); 3. The considered factors for instructors. Based on the information collected, the author tries to propose a set of teaching methods combing traditional language teaching methods and applied teaching methods in interpretation.
