The purposes of this study were: (1) to investigate the current situation of collegiate tennis players' participation motivation. (2) to compare the differences of participation motivation for different background collegiate tennis players. A total of Three hundred and sixty collegiate tennis players were served as subjects. The results indicated: (1) All of the collegiate tennis players had higher intrinsic motivation and lower amotivation. (2) private college players had higher intrinsic motivation than national college players. (3) players who has been trained in shorter time per-day had higher extrinsic motivation and amotivation than who trained longer time per-day
