This Report is intended to research the themes of The Heavenly Sword and The Dragon Sabre written by Jin Yong. For reports on Kungfu novels made home and abroad, few has been made intensively on The Heavenly Sword and The Dragon Sabre. Thus this Report titled 「A Researching Analyses on the Themes of Jin Yong’s The Heavenly Sword and The Dragon Sabre」is expected to manifest the significance and value of the novel. The report makes analyses on the novel according to the four themes on the disclosure of dark side of human nature, depiction of worldly passions, implication of Confunism, Buddhism and Taoism, and propaganda of knight-errantry. In respect of the disclosure of dark side of human nature, Jin deliberately broke through the two-way oppositional conception of righteousness and evilness in traditional Kungfu novels to reveal the true nature of human with the interconverting arrangement of righteous and evil characters; For depiction of worldly passions that include passions between master and prentice, friendship and love, with which a rich feeling world is constructed through the contradiction and conflict of passions; For implication of Confunism, Buddhism and Taoism, the novel depicts and pursuits all kinds of life realm which covers the spirit of Confunism, Buddhism and Taoism with the implication of literature value and ideas; For propaganda of knight-errantry, the swordmans in the novel are ready to help for a just cause, bold and unconstrained, they are particularly thirsty for freedom to pursuit a deeper level of self-life realm which is different from the archetype of knight-errantry. Jin praised the virtues of kindness and the knight-errantry with the four themes to reveal the ideas of traditional Chinese culture which can exert a subtle correction of human nature as the greatest significance and value of the novel.
