This study is an analysis of the demand for life insurance policy loans in Korea. Especially, focus is brought into the change in patterns of utilizing policy loans due to the 1997 economic crisis in Korea. The results show that the overall unemployment rate and price level are factors that influence policy loan demand. Furthermore, unemployment is negatively related to policy loan demand due to an increased surrender- and- lapse ratio.
