This manuscript depicted the nursing experience of caring a 45-year-old patient with inferior myocardial infarction admitted to the intensive care unit for first time. The author, as a primary nurse, took care of this patient from June 1 to 7, 2006. Whole-person care model with the skills of clinical observation and interview were used to collect the subjective and objective data, discover and ascertain the nursing diagnoses including acute pain, anxiety, decreased cardiac output, risk for infection and so on. As this patient was in the acute phase of acute myocardial infarction, he was isolated from his family and admitted to the intensive care unit to receive professional care by staff nurse. Since he was not familiar with his own illness, he became restless and nervous. The author, as a primary nurse of the patient, took care of him like her own family, discovered his clinical problems, and provided appropriate nursing measures to alleviate his fear during the acute phase of illness. Hence he might be transferred to the general ward smoothly later.
