The purpose of the study was to investigate: 1) use of time out; 2) frequency of the use of time out by athletes and coaches; 3) strategic use of time out during table tennis competition. The subjects were table tennis players participating in the National Table Tennis Tournament in 2007, with average age of 19.82±3.2 (male) and 17.69±2.8 (female). There were 29 male coaches and 19 coaches with mean age of 30±10.2 years old. There ere 822 competitions including 442 male competitions and 380 female competitions. The result showed that the uses of time out were more frequent in male than in female. This difference in gender remained during the entire competition period.
