The learning and instruction of guqin in Taiwan have been conducted by the mainland guqinmasters: YingtangHu, ZhisunZhang, ZaipingLiang, ZonghanWu, YuqinSun, YunfuShao, LonganZhu, TianqiRong. The great efforts made by those predecessors cultivated the majorguqin masters nowadays. Some of them have become guqinspecialists teaching in thecolleges, or offering guqin classes in the communities. Those guqinspecialistsand their students formed several mainguqinsocieties which people assembleand interchange information about the art of guqinin Taiwan. Recently, some famous majorguqin masters of China, e.g., ZhaoWu, WenguangWu, YiGong, XiangtingLi, GongliangCheng, ChengyunDing, have been invited to give talks and performances by theuniversities in Taiwan. In the 2151 century, which the internet makes the circulation of information more convenient, could it be possible that the learning and instruction of guqin in Taiwan are not confined in the fields ofethnomusicology and Chinese music so that people have more opportunities to appreciate as well as to learn it? The purpose of this paper is to collate and analyze current guqin learning and instruction in Taiwan and prospect the possible guqin development in the future. Hopefully, our study could cultivate a new generation of guqinenthusiasts in the Taiwan music market, which has been dominated by the western music and literature, and provide the up-to-date Taiwanguqin news for overseasguqinenthusiasts.
