The Principle of Status and Order, to a certain extent, makes up for a deficiency in Western theories of international politics. It has been particularly helpful in dealing with foreign and diplomatic affairs. The present study examined Taiwanese personnel assigned to diplomatic affairs and received 361 responses. A statistical analysis showed that the more the diplomats were aware of the importance of proper status in oriental thought, the more they understood the implications of the term ”Chinese Taipei” and pragmatic diplomacy. The more the diplomats were aware of the importance of proper status in oriental thought, the more they understood that Beijing attempted to make Taiwan a local government of China. The greater understanding there was of implications of the term ”Chinese Taipei” and Taiwan's pragmatic diplomacy, the more chances Taiwan had to participate in international organizations. Conversely, the more Taiwan was seen as a local government of China, the fewer chances Taiwan had to participate in international organizations.
