This study aimed at how the image toward Japan held by four Taiwanese students changed before and after participation in an exchange program, and analyzing the factors by performing PAC analysis and semi-structured interviews. It was found that the changing of Japanese image has three types 1. "changed for the better ", 2."retain" and 3."changed for the worse", despite their language ability. If they had good and close friendships on campus and outside, their types of change belonged to 1 and 2. Whereas, if they had close friendships only on campus, it belonged to 2. On the other hand, if they didn't have close friendships, it belonged to 3. Therefore, having close friendships is the more influential factor of changing their Japanese image rather than their language ability, under the circumstances of providing supports for the language and daily life.It is implied that these findings contribute toward the prior education, supporting for students studying abroad and interchanging between local people and them.
