It has been 20 years since the research on Zhangzhou kiln commenced, with the archaeological survey began in 1984. There were 3 subsequent surveys conducted between 1994 and 1998, while a report was published in 1997. On the other hand, porcelain produced by Zhangzhou kiln was discovered in relics in Zhangzhou, Taiwan, Japan, South East Asia, West Asia and East Africa, as well as the waters of Guangdong, Xisha islands and South East Asia and sunk vessels in the Atlantic Ocean. A series of research findings were reported at home and abroad. At present, the issues surrounding the research of Zhangzhou kiln include systematic surveys of the corresponding industrial heritage, compilation of information, analyses on the past and present of the kiln industry, the division of historical period of the kiln, trading ports and routes and their relations between the kiln and kraak porcelain, the dissemination and influence of the porcelain production techniques, the historical role of the kiln, etc. Given the international nature of the research, academic teams should be organised to establish the relevant topics and to enhance cooperation and exchanges.
