It has long history about the contact with Mandarin and Vietnamese language and culture, also the evolution is very complex. This kind contact is uncommon, including conscious and forced. The result of 2 thousand years contact with Mandarin and Vietnamese is that there are a plenty of Sino-Vietnamese. According to statistics by Henri Maspéro (1912), Sino-Vietnamese accounts for about 60% of Vietnamese words. This study will discuss the historical and social factors that promote the contact with Mandarin and Vietnamese language and culture. These factors led to the spread of Mandarin into Vietnam also become integration and more assimilated. That was the root of forming the pronunciation of Vietnamese characters. It caused a lot of Sino- Vietnamese appear in modern Vietnamese words system to enrich Vietnamese expression. This study will reclassify and categorize based on the same viewpoint of Sino-Vietnamese from academia and the pronunciation features of Sino-Vietnamese.
