This study aims to combine familiar visual culture and popular culture of students' daily lives in the course of Arts and Humanities of elementary school Grades 5 & 6. The popular culture content of visual images of Grade 5 & 6 students in Taiwan were analyzed. The art creation and ideology was probed by thematic unit activities, including visual art, music and performance art course design and team work. Students' and observer's unit feedback and teaching reflection is used to constantly modify and improve the course. Finally, upon students' interview and feedback and instructor's and observer's feedback and reflection, the research findings were evaluated. This study realizes that the characteristics and content of popular culture preferred by elementary school Grade 5 & 6 students can be applied as teaching materials in the course of Arts and Humanities to enhance the students' learning motivation, achievement and learning outcome as well as independent thinking and critical competence.
