本研究探討研究發展(R&D)外溢效果對我國自動化新產業廠商利潤績效的影響。實證估計中所使用的R&D外溢效果指標包括了Spence(1984)的外溢指標，修正後Spence(1984)的外溢指標，以及利用Jaffe(1986)所提出的加權外溢指標的概念所推估出來的指標。實證結果指出，三種外溢指標對自動化新產業廠商利 潤績效的影響都其有正面的效果。然而不同的外溢指標所衡量的外溢效果卻有不同的顯著水準:Spence(1984)外溢指標並不顯著，而修正後Spence的外溢指標與Jaffe(1986)型態外溢指標則具有顯著的影響效果。

This paper studies the effect of R&D spillovers on the profit performance of firms in the automation industry. Three indexes are used to measure the degree of R&D spillovers: Spence (1984), Jaffe (1986), and modified Spence proposed by this study. As empirical results indicate, the coefficients of Jaffe and modified Spence indexes have an improved explanation of firms' profitability.
