為抗衡國際市場的競爭，國內金屬產業廠家多組成研發聯盟，期望藉此提升研發能量、邁向產品高價值化。在金屬產業現有的研發聯盟當中，其型態包含水平聯盟、垂直聯盟與混合聯盟，因此，本研究利用Cobb-Douglas生產函數來實際分析，研發聯盟對於加盟廠商供給面如勞動成本、實質資本與研發投入對其產出所產生的影響，除欲探究我國金屬產業廠商在不同時期下所投入之研發能量對其研發技術所造成之外溢效果外，更進一步分析何為最佳的聯盟型態。研究結果發現，研發投入對於臺灣的金屬產業多存在正向且顯著的外溢效果；此外，垂直型研發聯盟對於金屬產業的產出影響最鉅，顯示出在製程結構下，藉由上游的原料取得來支援中、下游的產品製造，研發聯盟的貢獻最佳。
