　　　　　隨著電腦與通訊技術的發展，光碟資料庫的引進，檢索介面的推陳出 新，資料庫供銷商經營的轉向，網路資源的日漸推廣，愈來愈多的終端使用者不 再透過圖書館員等中介者代為查尋線上資料而自行檢索。這個現象引起了圖書館 界許多的工作者質疑圖書館人員在傳統上扮演資源與使用者間的中介角色是否 不再被需要。許多文章著墨於描述此一現象的發生，而較少從使用者的角度深入 探討這些使用者的特徵為何?使用者在檢索時的行為有何特色?圖書館在引進電 子資訊服務前後應考慮哪些因素?應扮演何種角色?本文分析實證研究之文獻，從 使用者資訊需求與資訊尋求行為的角度探討以上之謙題。
　　　　　This paper examines the empirical studies of end-user searching and the impact ofCD-ROM products on online information retrieval in an academic context. Based on theunderstanding of end-user searching behavior and attitudes as shown in the literature, thepaper suggests the roles of librarians and the factors libraries should consider when theyprovide information services.
