The purpose of this study is to explore chronic schizophrenia's sex knowledge, attitude, acivities, problems and related factors. By using self-designed questionnaires, ninetyone patients were drawn drom one hospital located in the southern Taiwan during theperiod of Oct. 1,1993 through Mar-28, 1994. Data were analyzed by percentile, meanvalue, standard deviation, correlation analysis, and chi-square test. The reult shows that most schizophrenia possess common knowledge about sex, butsome knowledge is incorrect or devicted. Sex knowledge was primarily learned fromnewspapers, magazines, vedio tapes, friends, or other patientstend to be neutral. The sexattitudes tend to be no comments among chronic schizophrenic patientstend tend to beneutral. Male patients have more frequent sex activities than female patients before theirillness or admission period, and short-term hopitalized patients are more open than longterm ones. Sex probloems perceived by most patients are "no chance to go out to find asexual partner","less sexual poeasure","retarded ejaculation","no one likes me", and "nosteady sexual partner". Long-term hospitalized patients manifest better awareness of sex knowledge thanshort-term ones. Most male patient reveal more conservative sex attitudes than females,and long-term patients more than short-term ones. A negative correlation exists betweensex knowledge and sex attitudes. A Positive correlation exists between institutionalization and sex knowidge, while a negative correlation between institutionalization and sexattitudes. On aspect of sexual-desire, male patients have stronger desire than females, soare the long-term ones.lllness or medication affect males more than females' in sexualactivities and long-term hopitalized patients more than shout-term ones.
