本文結合了組織社會學兩大流派--種群生態學和制度學派的視角，探索我國不同省區民營經濟發展速度對民營企業績效的影響。研究發現，民營經濟的快速發展對民營經濟發展程度高的省區企業影響是負面的，卻有利于發展程度低的省區的民營企業;前者是組織環境中的競爭性機制所致，后者主要是受合法性機制的影響。研究進一步發現，民營經濟的快速發展對小型民營企業和年輕的民營企業更為有利。本文在方法論和理論上對種群生態學都有所突破，另外本文的發現也彌補了"新進入缺陷"理論的不足。
This study combines the perspectives of population ecology and institutional theory in organizational sociology to explore how the varying growth rates of private sector across provinces in China influence the financial performance of private firms.The results show that the rapid growth of the private sector is negatively associated with the firms’ performance in provinces with a more developed private sector，whereas it has a positive impact on the firms in provinces where the private sector is less developed.We attribute the difference to the respective dominance of the competition mechanism and the legitimacy mechanism in the two scenarios.The results further show that the rapid growth of the private sector is especially beneficial to small and young firms.This paper contributes to the theory of population ecology in both methodology and theory.In addition，the findings are able to qualify the notion of " liability of newness".
