Abstract
Creation is the main idea of “Beyond the Image.” Creation develops the Calligraphy Aesthetics by practicing Creation Idea and showing image of Calligraphy Creation. Additionally, it is based on traditional Calligraphy Theory and Aesthetics to show the idea of creation and to analyze the meaning and skills of works.
One of the characteristics of Calligraphy is the readable quality of words, and the other is the Aesthetic quality of shapes. As a result, through the appearance of shaped image and the meaning of a word, we can imagine the image spiritually, and then beyond the image. With time and Aesthetics, “Beyond the Image” lasts the poetic feeling. The specific and perfect quality of “Beyond the Image” proves Calligraphy has life and feeling, delivers one’s feeling and expresses the waves of one’s emotion with the lines of Calligraphy. Therefore, the shape and the meaning of a word can expand the opinion of the signal into the expression of “Beyond the Image”.
Calligraphy can express feelings directly. For example, Huai-chuan Chang stated that we had to read a couple of sentences and then understood the main idea of an article, but we could know what a man thought from the shape of words he wrote. Besides, according to the West Graphological Psychology, their research shows that someone’s mind will expose to his/her handwriting and deliver his/her opinion. In consequence, the definite life opinion and the feeling pattern form the uniqueness. During the process of scholar’s writing, the mixture of Calligraphy’s, Daoist’s and Zen’s spirit expresses the mysterious thought of mind and life feeling. As a result, the style of Calligraphy always hides in the shape out of the thought and then the audience can understand another meaning that is beyond the image.
Nowadays, Calligraphy tends to the style of artistic creation. “Beyond the Image” inherits the spirit of Calligraphy to develop the artistic and traditional quality. To express the diversity of art and the beauty of “Beyond the Image”, the author divides his works into four parts -“The Spirit of Calligraphy ”, “Following One’s Own Heart”, “Variety of Image” and “The Mixture of Writing and Painting”.
