　　　　　This article describes the origins and changes of library science, explores the emergence and development of information science, and analyzes the continuum and evolution of library and information science. Moreover, an observation on the influence of the Internet and digital libraries, both conceptually and pragmatically, on the field of library and information science is presented. Perspectives of library and information science are also discussed.
