The purpose of the research is to study the present status of information services in R.O.C. libraries and information literacy knowledge of professional libraries in order to establish "the Guidelines and Evaluation Indicators of Information Literacy Education in Library Information Services." Three Questionnaires were used to survey: 1. information services activities in library programs nationwide, 2. librarians' knowledge of information literacy, and 3. peers review of recognized information literacy skills for librarians. In addition, four meetings were conducted in order to further understand problems and needs of libraries and librarians with relation to information literacy education. Based on the research findings, a draft of library information literacy education guidelines and evaluation indicators was formulated and ten suggested recommendations were included. It is hoped that R.O.C. government, Ministry of Education, libraries of all kinds, computer and information community, educators, and librarians will use the indicators to develop the national information literacy education program for preparing citizen of the country the basic skills and abilities of information literacy for embracing the challenge of 21st century.
