　　　　　在宗波爾眾多作品中明顯的主題之一是對於家的追尋，縱然有挫敗、遷徒、移民、甚至「踐踏過去」，主人翁對於追尋仍保有一貫的堅持。本文呼籲揚棄後殖民與第三世界國家在開發上所遵循的「歐洲中心時間軸」，並指出在全球化的脈絡之下，奈波爾的旅行紀事不僅展現在地的困境，亦質疑家的概念且隱含對西方合理性的棄絕。本文經由奈波爾文本分析提出另類策略，將時間視為「懸空的流動」，彷彿吊懸在半空中，擺盪的過去與未來之間；相對於現在，過去與未來的意義驟減，現在則不斷地擴張與延伸。「現在的遺產」提供在地一種面對全球化嶄新的力量。
