《舊約》39 卷書中唯一兩卷以女性命名的是〈路得記〉與〈以斯帖記〉。傳統解經對〈路得記〉的詮釋,率皆稱頌路得的賢德,對婆婆拿俄米的忠心與愛心,以致最後得以嫁給財主波阿斯,並成為猶大建國者大衛的曾祖母。對於第三章中她「疑似」色誘波阿斯的情節,傳統學者皆「為賢者諱」,試圖合理化。 然而女性主義讀法介入聖經研究已經有超過百年的歷史(從史坦頓〔Elizabeth Cady Stanton〕算起)。近二十年左右,更開始充分展現它足以影響專業聖經研究的力道,逼使學者對聖經中女性扮演的角色,在當時社會的地位,以及在那樣一個男性中心的文化中被呈現的方式提出問題。想要從女性主義觀點來重新檢視聖經的學者亦是不絕如縷。〈路得記〉由於明顯地以女性關懷為中心,自然成為矚目的焦點所在。 但本文除了從關懷女性地位的角度出發外,還有另一更重要的倫理議題:強調建立起面對面關係的重要。此一理念主要為拉維納斯所提倡,認為若非如此不足以真正回應他人。伊瑞葛來則鼓吹性別差異的倫理,並指出拉維納斯在呈現兩性關係的時候,仍然墮入既有的文化想像,將女性局限於被動角色之中。不過證諸〈路得記〉,路得與拿俄米皆主動選擇自己所愛,絕非被動的受愛者。路得更是三位主要人物中,率先願意建立起面對面倫理之人。 是故文分四段。第一段簡介〈路得記〉文本的詮釋脈絡。第二段略述女性主義興起後對聖經詮釋與研究造成的衝擊,形成抗拒式讀法之貢獻與侷限。第三段則引介伊瑞葛來與拉維納斯的倫理觀,嘗試加以結合運用。第四段提出筆者根據前段對〈路得記〉重新解讀,嘗試證明是路得率先以面對面倫理待人,因而激勵了其他兩位主角亦同樣回應。證諸今日世情,當能同樣適用。
