The invention of computer and the Internet has made great impact on traditional ideas about privacy. It always seems that the mechanism of privacy protection cannot catch up with the rapid changing information technology. This essay analyzes three theories of privacy, i.e. the fundamental right perspective, the economic analysis perspective, and the community-oriented perspective. This essay argues that the community-oriented perspective is better suited as the foundation to establish the mechanism of privacy protection. In the conclusion, this essay also makes a brief comment on the current privacy legislation in Taiwan.
