The "original landscape" for Tamsui dwellers has been inscribed in the historical image of "Pu-ding" area; Tamsui is called "Venice in the East" in Japanese-occupied Era, and it is still one of the most important spots in painters' eyes. In early days, schools in Tamsui was spread in Pu-ding area and nearby mountains away from the market streets. Following Mackay Street, students went to schools through the market streets, which has become significant living landscape in their growing-up experiences. In the last decades, the streams of tourists from Taipei Metropolitan have caused fatal degeneration of cultural landscape in the whole town. It rapidly faded away the collective memories of everyday life in the city town. Mackay Street and Pu-ding are the last two areas which still keep the historical landscapes, since most of the zonings in these areas are public land, schools and hillsides. However, the landscape has been changed under the pressure of development, and the streets have lost historical ambiance for lack of management. What is introduced in this article is the follow-up execution of "Historical pathway of Pu-ding area, and landscape mending of Mackay Streets projects in Tamsui". We attempt to discover potential patterns of building public space by means of art actions intervening in space. The articulation of actions emerged from local region dynamically is part of cultural empowerment in Tamsui.
