背景　憂鬱、焦慮是機構老人常見的心理問題，而機構老人心理層面的照顧常讓照顧者承受很大的負荷，若有一種能兼顧雙方感受的照顧方法，相信能嘉惠雙方。「親密按摩」是一種關切照顧者辛苦，也重視被照顧者感受的照護方法，此一照顧方式是否能改善機構老人的憂鬱及焦慮，為本研究所關切的問題。目的　本研究欲探討「親密按摩」對照護機構老人之憂鬱、焦慮情緒的改善成效。方法　針對六名照護機構老人採用單一受試研究方法之跨個人的多基線設計，比較不同期間，親密按摩介入的前後，機構老人憂鬱、焦慮程度之變化。本研究共進行二階段基線期、二階段處理期及一階段維持期合計十五天的研究時間，最後以目視分析法及C統計分析之。結果　研究結果得知「親密按摩」的介入可立即減輕機構老人的憂鬱及焦慮程度，但不具保留效果。結論／實務應用　當照護機構遇到老人因憂鬱或焦慮而拒絕合作或難以安撫時，或老人處於突發的憂鬱或焦慮情緒時，若專業醫療人員不在現場，此一簡單的照護方式仍可由親屬親自操作，便於提供即時緩解之處理，以降低機構老人之憂鬱及焦慮。

Background: Depression and anxiety are sources of distress for institutionalized elders that often result in increased workloads for nursing staffs. The development of an effective method to improve depression and anxiety that considers the priorities of both caregivers and patients would offer significant benefits. The efficacy of using intimacy massage on elders in terms of achieving reduced depression and anxiety in a manner that reduces the stress/workload borne by nurses represents the major concern of the study. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of "intimacy massage" on reducing depression and anxiety in institutionalized elders. Methods: Research was conducted on an individual basis on six institutionalized elders. Observed changes in depression and anxiety before and after the implementation of intimacy massage were recorded. The 15-day research program was divided into 2 baseline phases, 2 treatment phases and 1 maintenance phase. Results were analyzed using a visual analysis method and C statistics. Results: Results showed "intimacy massage" able to alleviate depression and anxiety in participants instantly, without a maintenance effect. Conclusions/Implications for practice: Family members may administer intimacy massage when nurses are unable to do so. Intimacy massage is suitable as a therapy response to the urgent onset of depression or anxiety in the elderly.
